I was
recently invited to review a boutique hotel in the heart of Gurgaon called The Pllazio. If you've ever visited or stayed in a boutique property in any major
city of the world - be it London, New York, Manhattan etc. - you'd probably
know what to expect. But for the uninitiated, The Pllazio adorns aristocratic
European style architecture with exotic amenities such as suites, spas, gym,
pools, fountains, etc.
Let's get
started with the review.
Prime Location
The hotel is
flanked by both business and leisure travelers all year round for corporate
gigs, social functions like weddings, etc. And I am not surprised why!
The Pllazio
is a few blocks away from the HUDA Metro Station, Kingdom of Dreams,
Fortis hospital, Gymkhana Club, and Sector 29 market. With over 80 rooms and 2
suites, the hotel offers world-class facilities while drawing inspiration from
rich and elegant neo-classic decor that makes it stand out from other luxury
properties in Delhi-NCR.
Entrance
The Pllazio
looks stunning from the outside. Beautiful fountains, appealing wall colors,
neat French windows, landscaped gardens, fantastic walkways, and chic
courtyards mark the hotel entrance.
Express Check-in
The check-in
process doesn't take more than a few minutes. Once your booking details are verified by
the front desk, you can directly walk into your suite or room.
Do inquire about
The Pllazio Membership Card while you are around to enjoy great benefits on
your stay.
The Pllazio
has tie-ups with all major online travel agencies (OTAs) and operators, so you
could easily book a room via MakeMyTrip or Yatra to name a few.
Neo-Classic and Contemporary Rooms
The Pllazio
offers its patrons a choice between Neo-Classic and Contemporary rooms. If
you're a new-age traveler and have a fetish for modernity, go for the latter.
Contemporary rooms are priced at INR 6500 plus taxes per night. You tend to pay
less for the Neo-Classic rooms (INR 6000 plus taxes per night).
The Iris and Aster Suites
I was told
that there are just two suites (called Iris and Aster) in the entire five-storied hotel, and I was curious to know why. The Iris suite, in particular, blew my
mind away and is bound to surpass anyone's expectations for that matter.
Named after
a bright-colored flower by the same name, the Iris Suite defines elegance and
is truly a place to die for.
I have never seen a 250 kg cast iron tub on this
soil before, and obviously was spellbound. You could jump from the tub to the
bed and vice versa; it instantly drew me in.
The choice
of colors used in the suite is, simply put, brilliant. Light pastel color
scheme that has a soothing effect to eyes.
The Iris
Suite has two rooms - a master bedroom and a private living room. While the
master bedroom is all about style, comfort, and grandeur, the living room is
all about leisure or study.
The suites
are priced at INR 15,000 plus taxes per night.
Main Attractions
Rooftop
Looking for a quick swim or want to host a poolside party. Head for the rooftop
at The Pllazio that looks absolutely mesmerizing at night due to the vibrant
colors of the Dome. Truly, luxury at its best.
The Scruples Bar
Quite an
uncanny name to describe a great place to host private parties or relax over
your favorite drinks.
Located at the lobby level and open every day from 11:00
am to 11:30 pm, the bar can accommodate minimum 10 people and maximum 45 people
(standing that is) in the upper deck of the bar.
Almost six people can be
seated near the bar and nearly fourteen people can sit in the lower deck of the
bar.
The dinner
buffet at The Scruples Bar is priced at INR 2000 per person only and includes
two vegetarian and two non-vegetarian starters.
You could also order Indian
made foreign liquor that is served unlimited for two hours.
If you're in the
mood of some imported liquors like Black Label, you could pay an additional INR
500 to upgrade your deal.

Melange World Cuisine Restaurant
Fond of
Mediterranean, Continental, Oriental, or Pan Asian cuisines? If your answer is
in the affirmative, then Melange is the place for you.
A multi-cuisine
restaurant that can accommodate over 82 patrons at any given time, Melange is
also known for its hugely popular cafe menu.
Located at the lobby level and
open from 6 am to 12 midnight, Melange offers buffet breakfast, lunch, and
dinner.
Buffet Price
- Breakfast: INR 450 plus taxes per person
- Lunch: INR 895 plus taxes per person
- Dinner: INR 1095 plus taxes per person
If you
prefer outdoors, you can move towards the outer sitting area called Alfresco,
where over a 100 people can be easily accommodated.
There was an
ambiance of excitement around Melange and I couldn't wait to meet Chef Sudipto
for a food review.
Athena Banquet Hall
A perfect
venue for hosting conferences/events or celebrating special occasions, the
Athena provides up to 5000 square feet of meeting space to accommodate nearly
250 guests.
You can also use the prefunctional area to serve food and
beverages.
While Athena is located at the level two of the basement, there are
a couple of mid-size halls located on the fifth floor of The Pllazio to
accommodate 50 to 80 guests.
That's not all;
you can also make full use of the three board rooms that could seat nearly 27
guests. Popularly known as the Chambers, these rooms are equipped with
high-speed broadband Internet and Wi-Fi, state-of-the-art AV support, offsite
catering services, and in-house meeting and event coordinators.
Gym and Spa
If you're in
a mood to exercise, make sure you visit the Gym located on the level five of
The Pllazio. You could also relax at The Tatha Spa later, where you can avail
international full body massage with olive and white oil. For one hour of
massage, you need to pay INR 2500, inclusive of all taxes.
Rendezvous with Chef Sudipto
A chance
meeting with Executive Chef Sudipto turned out to be the highlight of the
evening.
With over 23 years of work experience for brands like Norwegian
Cruise, ITC Sarovar, etc., Sudipto shared his valuable insights about the art
of cooking. An alumnus of Ramakrishna Mission, Kolkata, Sudipto also pursued a
Diploma in Food Management from IIHM. He was the Head Executive Chef at the
19th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held at Kampala, Uganda
in November 2007. It was here that he got to cook for Queen Elizabeth.
In his
spare, Sudipto likes to cook for NGOs and help the spastic societies. He also
likes to travel to understand local food, especially street food.
Passionate
to the core, Sudipto owes his success to voracious reading, being open-minded
and honest, keeping it simple, using good equipment and fresh/raw ingredients,
and his knowledgeable and educated staff.
Sudipto
later invited me to try some of his signature dishes.
