With autumn
kicking in and the festive season just around the corner, the F&B industry
in the capital city is gearing up for a busy yet exciting season ahead.
Popular
foodie destinations like the Ek Bar have already introduced their fabulous new
menu to cater to the ever growing demands of discerning customers, by bringing
in a vast selection of vibrant, unique, and flavorsome India inspired plates,
curating ingredients and food stories from all over the country and presenting
the same with a modern twist.
Ek Bar |
Yours truly
was there last week to sample the new menu by Chef Sujan S, and everything,
right from the food and beverages to the ambiance, brimmed with its own
narrative.
Ek Bar |
Cocktails
The new
cocktail menu at Ek Bar contains a unique collection of deliciously
intoxicating beverages with seasonal flavors.
Cocktails at Ek Bar |
Each
cocktail is packaged beautifully and is deeply characterized by strong Indian
flavors, making the homegrown menu an instant hit with patrons. Other highlight
IMHO is the use of season's freshest produce with some of the best and top
shelf liquors.

All
cocktails at Ek Bar are served with a unique garnish of dried fruits and
vegetables such as lemon, orange, beetroot, plum, and more.
Here is a
list of my favorite cocktails at Ek Bar.
The Royal
Indian Punch
True to its
name, this classic Indian beverage was once enjoyed by the royals in the early
17th century. The signature cocktail is now available at Ek Bar with equal
grandeur and style.
Served in a
royal teapot, this drink is made with an eclectic mix of whisky, kahwa tea,
grapefruit syrup, spices, and ice.
Royal Teapot in which The Royal Indian Punch is served |
Murabba Mule
A much
appreciated signature drink that combines recipe for the traditional kairi
murabba (green mango marmalade) with homemade ginger beer and Vodka.
City of
Nizams
This has to
be my all-time favorite turmeric and gin based cocktail, infused with orange
syrup and tonic water.
City of Nizams |
Old Delhi
Sour
A classic
whisky sour reinvented with an in-house aromatic rose hip shrub.
Queen
Victoria
Another
signature cocktail made with whisky, aamada or fresh mango ginger, lemon, and
honey water.
Ek Bar Kanji
A sour and
fizzy drink made with Tequila, pickled beetroot, in-house kanji shrub, and
lime. The use of traditional recipe of beetroot kanji (made in Indian homes) is
commendable.
Phool Bagan
Phizz
This
aromatic and fizzy floral drink combines the unbeatable flavors of Mogra or
fresh Jasmine, infused with gin, lime, sugar, egg white, and sparkling water.
Phool Bagan Phizz |
Sattu
Sharbat
This savory
drink is Ek Bar's take on the classic Tom Collins. Contains Vodka, sattu or
roasted gram flour syrup, in-house spice mix, and salt.
Kala
Amritsari
Things gets
sour and fruity with this Vodka based cocktail, which contains childhood
flavors of your beloved plum variety, along with lime and egg.
Degree Kaafi
This bitter
sweet concoction is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Degree Kaafi is Ek
Bar's very own twist to the iconic 'degree coffee' of South India, with the
addition of Gold rum, bitters, coffee syrup, and tonic.
Madira
This
aromatic and bitter cocktail is an ode to the classic era of homemade and aged
alcohol from ancient India. Made of Gin, masala tea vermouth, and in-house
Cointreau.
Madira |
Khari
Baoli-Old Fashioned
Did you know
that Khari Baoli is Asia's biggest spice market since the 17th century?
This spicy
and strong cocktail is Ek Bar's take on the 'old-fashioned' drink, infused
with spices from Khari Baoli. Contains Bourbon whiskey, spice infused demerara syrup,
and homemade bitters.
Chhaang
A relative
of beer, Chhaang is mainly brewed (using barley, millet, or rice grains) and
consumed by native areas surrounding the Himalayan belt. Contains whisky,
barley syrup, and lime juice. Best served piping hot in brass bowls or wooden
mugs when the weather is cold.
Chhaang |
With such a
wide array of beverages, it comes as no surprise that Ek Bar has made it to the
Conde Nast Hot List 2016 for the best bars in the world!
Ek Bar |
Food
This season
get ready to savor some of the best regional street food classics with
personalized twists only at the Ek Bar - from Kolkata's favorite creamy Chicken
Rezala to Champ Pakoda Pav - make sure you're up for a whole lot of tasty
surprises!
Ek Bar
scores pretty high in rendering a modern twist to their seasonal collection of
regional delicacies, inspired by and handpicked from the roots of India. The
best part is that they use unique, homegrown and farm fresh vegetables to churn
out the finest delicacies one after the other.
Jimikand
Galouti Kebab in Pita
Tender and
flavorful galouti kebabs made using yam root (jimikand).
Kataifi Wrap
Chili Paneer
Delicious
chili paneer wrapped in a kataifi or vermicelli like pastry, and served with
murabba lemon, pickled onion, and homemade chili-peanut ketchup.
Kataifi Wrap Chili Paneer |
Takatak
Tenderloin Roll
Sublime
Kerala chili tenderloin stuffed in a Neer dosa and served with homemade chili
peanut ketchup.
Richado Sole
Tikka Salad
In this
refreshing fennel and cucumber salad, Goan spice marinated tandoori river sole
is served with creamy garlic toum.
Ek Bar Pork
Belly
Grazed with
homemade sticky BBQ sauce and smoked in a tandoor, this is a dish to die for!
Topped with sesame seeds, spring onions, and pickled radish, the finger licking
good pork belly is served with garlic rice.
Ek Bar Pork Belly |
Sausage
Thali
A meat
lover's paradise! This thali contains classic selection of homemade Malabari
prawn sausage, spicy pork sausage, chicken tikka sausage, and Goan chorizo
Scotch egg, served with Ek Bar ketchup. Makes for a perfect bar snack and a
carnivore's dig.
