In this blog post, I review the Dakshin Food Festival organized by Crowne Plaza New Delhi Rohini from August 11 to August 27.
It is not every day that you get to take a trip down south while sitting in the confines of a luxurious five-star property in the heart of Delhi. But last month was an exception by all means!
I received an invite yet again to visit Mosaic*, my favorite haunt, to indulge in an aura of Southern India and savor delicacies influenced by the bountiful coastline, rain forests, and coconut laden beaches.
[* For the uninitiated, Mosaic is an all-day dining restaurant at Crowne Plaza New Delhi Rohini.]
The Dakshin Food Festival provided just the perfect opportunity to the discerning foodies of Delhi to relish signature dishes from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
As always, the buffet spread was quite elaborate with extensive use of homegrown aromatic spices. I relished dishes like Meen Pollichathu, Malabar Paratha, Appam with stew, Ras Omelette, Tomato Pappu, Payasam, and much more.
And make no mistake, the festival equally catered to needs of vegetarians as well, by offering dishes like the Chonka Idli, Cauliflower 65, Paneer 65, Mysore Bonda, Aval Vadai, Kothu Parotta, Mulaku Vada, etc.
The spread was offered in two slots:
It was a culinary extravaganza like no other! In addition to the soups and entrées, traditional desserts like Payasam, Ada Pradhaman, and Kesari Bhaat were also included in the buffet to create a long-lasting impression.
This was by far the most exotic food festival I'd been a part of!
