In this blog post, I cover Auro Kitchen and Bar, a modern casual dining restaurant located in South Delhi.
As the name suggests, Auro pays a fitting tribute to the bustling Aurobindo Market of South Delhi. Spanning across 7,000 square feet in dining area, Auro delights from the word go, by offering an open-air terrace and a chic bar designed using an old shipping container.
While the indoor offers plush and cozy sitting with dim lighting, the outdoor draws in through mismatched wooden and cane furniture placed amidst lush greenery. The spectacular open sitting spreads across 3,000 square feet; in the evening, fairy and fall lights gloriously lit up the space adding to the scenic vibe.
Hailed for its large open space, perfect for a beautiful dining experience with your loved ones, Auro is the place to be for a variety of reasons. Take their quirky menu for instance, which includes regional-inspired dishes and carefully curated selection of handcrafted cocktails.
By introducing flavors from across the country to their menu, Auro Kitchen and Bar attempts to take the Indian gastronomical journey to a new high.
Technically, Auro boasts of two bars - one each in the indoor and outdoor spaces - serving an exquisite range of liquors, including a selection of 21 classics and signature cocktails and top draught beers. The cocktail menu pleasantly surprised me with tantalizing tipples, comprising classics as well as popular concoctions with an added twist.
Two of my favorite signature cocktails at Auro include Smokey Godfather (a whiskey-based cocktail smoked with cinnamon stick and mixed with amaretto) and Botanist (Earl Grey-infused gin, flavored with lavender syrup, and topped up with lavender foam).
Alongside the bar, it's not hard to notice the dim sum and bao station; so just in case you're up for some freshly steamed dim sums, you know precisely where to go!
My recommendations for the best signature dishes include:
Vindaloo Pork Ribs
As most of you know, Vindaloo is a popular non-vegetarian curry dish made in the region of Goa, the surrounding Konkan, and many other parts of coastal India. At Auro, this dish is cooked to perfection in yummy Vindaloo paste.
Tibetan Hotdogs
Loved these in-house Gyuma sausages served with freshly steamed Tingmo bun roll - a perfect treat to the taste-buds.
Visit Auro for some of the best live gigs the city has ever hosted. In the last one year itself, Auro has hosted big names like Khruangbin, Helena Hauff, Ben UFO, Four Tet, Local Train, Parvaaz, and many more.
In the month of April this year, Auro played host to the 7th edition of PCMag Live. Honor India supported the cause, streaming the event live with their new 9 lite smartphone on PC Mag India.
Auro also hosted the 5th edition of the Ultimate Geek Challenge with RJ Kabir, where a cutting-edge spatial TW Audio Sound system was used, along with box installations by Elementa Designs and a tesseract based PC installation by FOXMYBOX.
Suffice to say, Auro is the best thing to have ever happened to the underground scene in Delhi. And I cannot wait to visit them again!
