In this blog post, I feature Mallacca, a new fine dining restaurant in 32nd Avenue that focuses on introducing the culinary heritage of South East Asia to the people of Gurugram.
For some quaint reason, the local cuisines of Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia have not been explored in length by top restaurateurs in Delhi-NCR ... and I have often wondered why!
With Mallacca, Gurugram finally has its first fine dining restaurant devoted to bringing the rich culinary heritage of South East Asia, courtesy Celebrity Chef Salil Mehta whose restaurant Laut is one of the first Malaysian restaurants to receive a Michelin Star in New York City.
Salil along with his elder brother Saurabh have curated the best of South East Asian cuisine at Mallacca, drawing inspiration from regional food influences, with prominent use of rice, galangal, lemongrass, raw mango, kaffir lime, coriander, fenugreek, coconut, roasted peanuts, and chili in most dishes to lend authenticity.
Like Salil, Saurabh too is no stranger to the world of hospitality, having spent over six years in this industry now. His partnerships with some of the most well known and high performing brands such as The Flying Saucer Cafe and Lord Of The Drinks Forum are the stuff that dreams are made of.
Located in the heart of Gurgaon's oldest, iconic landmark '32nd Milestone' which is now called the 32nd Avenue, Mallacca is the first to serve authentic dishes from the regions of Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
With a seating capacity of 100, which includes both indoors and alfresco, Mallacca offers a near perfect ambiance to enjoy fine dining with your loved ones. The restaurant is well lit and properly ventilated to ensure ease and comfort. You'll absolutely love the giant, colorful murals - aesthetically done and in perfect sync with the theme of the restaurant.
The Malaysian kitchen is in the capable hands of Executive Chef Hirdesh Rana and Sous Chef Vishal Adhikari. Together they leave no stone unturned to churn out some of my favorite signature dishes at Mallacca (without the use of any artificial flavors must I add here), including Nasi Lemak (which is the national dish of Malaysia), Murukku Doughnut (made of minced chicken and shrimp mixed with curry leaves and coated with panko crust), Ubi Keledek Goring (panko crusted sweet potato served with spicy mayo), Singapore Chilli Lobster, Rendang Mallacca (a spicy semi-dry dish with smoked grated coconut, kaffir lime, lemongrass and spices; available in Chicken and Lamb), and Ikan Bakar (grilled fish in banana leaves).
Also try the Teh Tarik (pulled tea made with condensed milk), Kerabu Mangga (spicy Malay mango salad with shredded tossed coconut in tamarind sauce), and Rojak (a traditional tangy and refreshing mix of fresh assorted fruits and garden bean sprouts).
And while you're at it, go for the Chef's Special, including Cili Pan Me and Roti Tissue (Chef Salil's signature dish at Laut New York).
Mallacca is a wonderful first step towards acclimatizing the foodies of Delhi-NCR towards authentic South East Asian cuisine. Drop in today to experience the magic of Mallacca.
